Coordinating Conjunctions/FANBOYS: For And Nor But Or Yet So
Used to join words that have the same function in a sentence.
1. Metal or stone cabinets are uncommon. (or is the Coor. Conj. It connects metal and stone)
2. Crabs are small, but they look very fierce. (but is the Coor. Conj. it connects one independent clause to another independent clause. It also has the added punctuation of the comma to separate the clauses.)
Correlative Conjunctions are pairs of words that join individual words or groups of words in a sentence. Either...or, neither...nor, not only... but also, both...and, and just...so.
This class was not only long but also boring. ( the italicized words are the conjunctions that join the sentence parts.)
